Long Island, New York — A family and school community are mourning Allison Rahmani, a 40-year-old mother of four and educator who d1ed after her SUV crashed into an in-ground swimming pool at a home in Hewlett Bay Park on Friday, August 21.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, Rahmani was driving a 2023 GMC in the driveway of a residence on Elinor Road shortly before 9:30 a.m. when she suddenly lost control. The SUV struck a tree and an unoccupied 2006 Honda before plunging into the swimming pool.
Rahmani was removed from the vehicle before responding officers arrived. Police performed life-saving measures, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced d3ad. Reports citing a source familiar with the family said she was able to call for help following the crash and that she did not d1e from drowning.
New information reported over the weekend indicates investigators believe Rahmani may have suffered a medical emergency immediately before losing control of the SUV. Authorities reportedly do not suspect foul play, although the official cause of her d3ath has not been publicly released and the investigation remains ongoing.
Rahmani was a teacher and math coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway, where she was remembered for her commitment to students. Her sudden passing has prompted tributes from colleagues, relatives and members of the Long Island Jewish community.
She leaves behind her husband, Matthew Rahmani, and their four children. Matthew serves as president of Irving Place Minyan, a Modern Orthodox synagogue in Woodmere. Reports indicate the couple had been preparing for a trip to Paris around the time the tr4g1c incident occurred.
During Allison’s funeral on Sunday, August 23, Matthew delivered an emotional tribute to his wife and recited “Eshet Chayil,” or “Woman of Valor,” a traditional Jewish prayer. Allison’s mother, Rachelle Rohde, and her sister, Dana Hess, also remembered her during the service, describing a devoted mother, wife and educator whose presence deeply affected those around her.
